Personally, we believe that obesity is a major problem in Australia as the number of obesity throughout the country are rising and showing no signs of slowing down. The government is efficient with ads which portray a healthier lifestyle when making healthier choices but give no recommendation as how to start breaking the bad habits. Organisations aimed to help stop obesity by giving people guidelines and providing filling meals do not advertise the problems that can come with being obese. I feel that stronger advertising which includes facts that will get people really thinking needs to be shown on TV in peak viewing times.
High fatty foods need to be more expensive so people will think twice about purchasing treats and fast food. I feel the government should place ads on public transport and in all towns and cities in Australia. Education for children in school from the age of year 3 on the effects of having a diet based on high fatty foods, this will give the children some responsibilities and independence on choosing their own healthy meals.
From statistics shown on the website, obesity is on the rise and expected to hit 25.6% of boys, 31.7% of girls being overweight or obese. This means that the need for stronger advertising and higher fast food prices is at its peak now. To stop many deaths and diseases that could have been prevented, more action needs to take place immediately.
Obesity is a problem in Australia and the issue should be addressed as fast as possible.
